Durham City AFC chairman Gary Hutchinson felt it only right today to make a statement regarding its future and present committee after rumours of the club folding before the end of the season and the resignation of himself and other board members.
“Today it is with sadness that I can confirm that our secretary Fred Usher has resigned with immediate effect Fred has been with the club for numerous years and last night handed in his resignation for various reasons the league and all secretaries have been informed of his decision.I myself hope the club can reverse this decision but this is looking unlikely at the time of writing so would like to wish Fred all the best and thank him for his efforts.
All correspondence for the time been should be sent to the club email firstname.lastname@example.org
I can also confirm that no other board member has left the club and that we will be doing our best to get out of the position in the league where we are, but at the moment we are where we are because we have not got results .Whatever will be will be we have no define right to be in the league yes we want to be in next season and even climb leagues as I guess most teams do but whatever will be will be we still have 45 points to play for.
Regarding the future of the club most people will know since we left New Ferens Park through no real fault of our own we have struggled, at the moment we still lose out financially at every game we play to break even ideally we need 150 paying supporters and we are grateful to our ex chairman and sponsors for keeping the club afloat but obviously this cannot last forever we need to raise cash and need to do it now.
Most of the board then have now left but we continue to try to take the club forward and keep running .
Since leaving New Ferens park we have played at Consett and our current home Willington and we thank both clubs for that but have always made it clear we wanted to be back in Durham or a surrounding village .
We had hoped we had found land in Belmont and spent alot of money only to be told a week before signing that we could not this was disappointing to say the least hence our hastag #BringingCityBackToDurham
As a temporary measure while looking for permanent land we had hoped to go to another pitch just outside of Durham Centre only to be told last week this has now fallen through not our fault or the owners and we have both tried to make this happen with regular meetings but to no avail at this time .
The current situation is we are still engaging with the council for a permanent base in Durham but the club may need to take a step back even moving out of Durham (we hope not) before moving forward.
I personally would like thank those clubs you know who you are and individuals and companies for not only wishing me the best but the club its much appreciated .
As Chairman of the club It has been really hard and may get harder but the club does not intend to fold and we will do our best to turn it around.
The club is now looking to recruit a new club secretary and board member if you are interested please get in touch email@example.com ,also we -as all clubs are looking for sponsors not only for this season but also behond so if you can help wether its 1 pound or 1 million it would be much appreciated.
