Ryton & Crawcrook 3 Durham City 0
The Citizens made the journey up the A1 on Wednesday night as they took on Ryton & Crawcrook at Kingsley Park. The opening exchanges were a little scrappy with both teams finding it hard to string a series of passes together. However the hosts thought they had took the lead on 4 Minutes when Joe Shepherd turned in a corner from Liam Anderson from 6 yards only for his celebration to be cut short by the Assistants flag. On 27 Minutes the hosts did have the lead. A high looping ball into the box by Callum Turnbull was met by the head of Phillip Hodges 12 yards out who glanced his header in off the post away from the outstretched arm of Richardson 1-0. City didn’t have time to regroup and within 2 Minutes they found themselves 2 down. That man again Phillip Hodges found space about 20 yards out and curled a sublime effort into the top right hand corner giving the keeper no chance 2-0 HT. Within a minute of the restart the hosts were on the front foot again. A driving run from midfield by James Thompson was eventually thwarted by Richardson who got down well to save with his feet. On 68 Minutes the hosts had their 3rd and it was a case of Deja vu for the Citizens. That man Phillip Hodges with a carve and copy of his second goal curling the ball into the top corner beyond the outstretched arm of Richardson 3-0. There was time for 1 more effort on goal this time Richardson making a terrific 1 handed save tipping Jamie Dunn’s effort over the bar from point blank range. 3-0 it finished with the Citizens not troubling the home keeper at anytime throughout the match. A much improved performance needed on Saturday when they make the journey away to West Allotment Celtic.
