The reserves start their new year with an away trip to Sunderland West End Reserves.
Cameron Thompson will take his side into their first away game of the 2020 campaign to league strugglers West End.
In their last game of 2019, 10 man reserves we’re narrowly beaten in a quarter final with league leaders Wheatley Hill WMC FC. The city player received his marching orders on the 30th minute after handling on the line. Wheatley Hill converted the penalty and added a second shortly after.
Despite having less men, the reserves managing to pull a goal back in some style thanks to a fantastic finish from Jake Holmes. Unfortunately, the Citizens couldn’t find the equaliser and were knocked out the cup.
Since then, the reserves have had 4 weeks off without a game. The side only returned to training on the second of January to prepare for this weekends game.
Manager Cameron Thompson has also added a number of new signings to the team. Full back Jack Curry, has joined from Hylton Sports Club, CF Jack Fleury who has joined the club after a recent trial period and Taylor Turner, Kieran Coatman, Sam Horner have all joined from the U17’s youth side.
“The new signings have added a massive mix of strength to our squad.
The two Jacks are massively experienced in this league and will set us in good stead to see out the season.
Taylor, kieran and Sam have excelled since coming into our training sessions and have a fantastic attitude. Their ability’s and their passion towards the game have given a real lift to the side and I’m looking forward to their development over the coming months”
Sunderland West End currently sit second bottom of the league table with only 1 win in 9. However, They are still a huge threat going forward with centre forward Jack Ramsden amongst the goals.
West end will be without goalkeeper Mathew Hinder who was sent off in their draw with Wynyard Village FC.
All five of the new signing are eligible to play in this Saturday’s fixture. Unfortunately, Gisel Gil is unavailable due to a recent FA Ban which will see him missing for two games. Midfielder Stephen Ord is also out of action this week due to work commitments.
Goalkeeper Harry Moss is back in the squad after his recent Spell with Spennymoor First team.
