Reserves beaten at Sherburn
It was a disappointing day in the office yesterday from Cameron Thompson’s side as the reserves were beat by two goals to nil by Hylton Colliery Welfare Football Club.
The Reserves went into the game with Gil, Cronin, Fleury, Curry, Coatman, Elves, Tinkler, Wakefield and Horner all out of action due to knocks. The latest one being Jac Fleury who pulled out of the squad in the warm up.
The started very slowly from both sides, neither team being able to keep hold of the ball and control possession. However, it was Hylton who opened the score with a well worked ball into the box, that was later smashed into the bottom corner. Again, no reaction from the reserves as Hylton continued to be dominant. 1-0 to Hylton at the Break.
A huge half time team talk, seen the reserves on the front foot in the opening minutes of the half. Midfielder Callum Robinson coming closest with a shot inches wide of the post. On the 58’ minute Attacking Midfielder Steven Dawson knocked the ball passed the Hylton defender and then was barged to the floor for a blatant penalty. However, it was totally ignored despite it being obvious. A huge chance missed to get back into the game.
This seemed to knock the reserves of their game as Hylton took control of the game and put the reserves on their back foot.
Hylton doubled their lead with a smart finish into the bottom corner on the 72’ minute. The game was then seen out by Hylton kicking the ball away or into the corners and their earliest convenience. It ended, Reserves nil Hylton two.
Manager Cameron Thompson has this to day;
“ I can take getting beat by the better side and being out played. However, today that wasn’t the case. Our side today played with no desire, determination or dedication and for me that’s criminal, we didn’t want it enough.
It’s by far the worst performance of the season , and we spent a good time after the game with the lads, and they all know now where they stand. The levels have to be better and it will be.
Today’s more disappointing as it’s a massive step back. Since the start of the year, we’ve performed brilliantly, worked hard and today was just the complete opposite, we’ll be back at it Tuesday and the lads will be back with a better mentality. I suppose days like today have to happen so we can become better and learn from it”
