Last night we played our final pre season game and beat Sunderland Sunday League side Stella United FC 3-2. This gave us our second successive win after a 5 – 1 over Hebburn Involve FC.
This has given the side a huge confidence boost just in time for our season opener against Washington AFC Reserves.
Myself and Assistant Manager have some huge decisions to make. We have a squad of 27 players. These lads have fantastic attitudes are as committed as anyone can be. Each player has pushed themselves to their limits and are forcing themselves into the match day squad.
However, that is part and parcel in football and unfortunately we can only pick 11 and it’s how people react to that decision that will make our minds up in future games.
We are in the best place possible for Saturday’s game, we have had some huge lessons which have been learned over pre season. We have taken negatives on board and have changed them into positives. We have a unique system which every player has bought into and everyone knows there roles and everyone else’s.
We have huge belief in this squad and feel they can deliver come Saturday and put Durham City AFC back on the map!
