Thompson unimpressed with Reserves trip to Norton.
Today the reserves took on Norton and Stockton Ancients in their third league game of the 2019 – 2020 Campaign.
A quick start from the reserves seen Aaron Hinds beat 3 players down the wing and put a low driven cross in for Calvin Payne who put his effort just wide of the mark.
However, that was the reserves only shot of the half after a dominating display by Norton and Stockton.
The reserves were forced into a change early
On as Aaron Hinds came off with illness. On came Jordan Nicholson in his place.
No real chances created from the hosts who were forced to shots from 30 yards out due to the defensive shape of Durham.their closest chance coming from a well played through ball which seen their centre forward snatch at the shot and just guide it wide of the target. The first half finished 0-0.
Again over half time, the reserves were forced into another change. Off came Skipper Harvey Cronin replaced by Central Defender Nathan Wakefield due to a knee injury caused from a collision in the first half.
Centre forward Robbie Middlebrook also coming on for Mounir Bousiri.
The second half started in the same theme as the first half. Both teams getting plenty of the ball but not many chances created. The closest either came to a goal came from a well worked move down the right from the reserves seen Calvin Payne square the ball to Middlebrook who put his effort just wide!
On the 78th minute, The reserves were reduced to 10 men. Centre Back Luke Elves giving a sin bin for descent.
However, the Ancients struggled to make the most of it. As again the reserves counter attacking with pace and causing plenty problems just not getting that perfect opportunity.
88 minutes gone and the game was level and neither team in the ascendency until, Norton striker broke through the middle only to be brought down in the penalty area by a dubious challenge from Rupiny.
Up stepped Glass who tucked the ball home. 1-0 and game over!
Norton and Stockton Ancients 1 – 0 Durham City AFC Reserves.
Manager Cameron Thompson had this to say after today’s game
“I felt today if we had came out with a point it would of been very harsh on Norton and Stockton.
Today they were the better side and had the majority of possession and chances throughout the game.
I say they were the better side. However, that was only the case because we allowed them to be. Today we lacked the fundamentals that it takes to win a game and unfortunately we didn’t show up.
It’s a frustrating one because we know exactly what our lads are capable off and today we didn’t show it. However, I back these lads to come out fighting and get back up. We have what it takes to do that and the lads are already raring to go.
Again, we’ll work on the negatives and turn them into positive aspects of our game. It’s what the best sides do “
